[Drumroll] and the Oscar goes to… Bowling!

We’ve found that it’s impossible to award the Oscar for “Best Film with Bowling” because there are just so many classic flicks that are nominated. In honor of the Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28, we took our own shot at breaking down the top five films about bowling in cinema history.

Maybe you can decide your all-time favorite after checking out our nominees. And the nominees in the category of “Best Film with Bowling” are…

  1. Mystery Men

A superhero with extraordinary bowling skills that she uses for good? Obviously that puts the 1999 superhero comedy, Mystery Men, on our list. Are you looking to channel the powers of The Bowler (performed by Janeane Garofalo)? Or maybe you just want a crystal bowling ball like she wields in the hilarious flick. Either way, Mystery Men wins a spot on our top 5.

  1. Greedy

Jonathan Lynn directed this 1994 comedy. Greedy stars Michael J. Fox and Kirk Douglas. When Robin encourages Danny (played by Fox) to ask his Uncle Joe for a loan, it is obviously for a bowling alley. Hilarity ensues, and the professional bowler, Danny, leads the way.

  1. Lars and the Real Girl

This little Indie flick from 2007 has a big heart. You might remember one of the quirkiest parts of the movie. No, it’s not the part where Lars dates a doll – it’s his bowling shot. Lars, in a stunning performance by Ryan Gosling, throws a hideous shot that falls in the gutter of the next lane over. Super Bowl encourages everyone to learn to bowl, just try not to throw in the cross-lane.

  1. Kingpin

This 1996 American sport comedy features Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, and Bill Murray and deserves a spot on our list of final nominees. The hilarious bowling action and competition has us loving every moment of this Farrelly Brothers’ movie.

And Super Bowl’s winner for Best Film with Bowling goes to…

  1. The Big Lebowski

We can’t say we’re too surprised that The Big Lebowski is the winner of Best Film with Bowling for Super Bowl’s special Academy Awards. If The Dude is your alter ego, it’s easy to see why this bowling classic would find its way to the top of your list. After all, The Dude abides.

These five flicks all make us remember why we love bowling. What better way to celebrate the Oscars than by coming into Super Bowl to bowl in the same spirit as your favorite bowling movie characters? Bring a friend, come as a group, or come by yourself. Either way, it’s time to bowl like the movies.

Which film has your vote for Bowling Academy Awards? Let us know in the comments below!
