With the temperatures are rising outside, it finally feels like summer has joined us. What better way to celebrate the season than by getting outside and enjoying all the fun summer family activities Milwaukee has to offer right now? Whatever your interests or budget, check out a few (or all!) of the events listed below. Enjoy the sun and spend some time with friends and family. It’s summer time!
For 11 days of fun, starting June 29, you can experience over 800 different acts that Summerfest has to offer. Whether you are craving to see the music industry’s biggest names, rising stars, or local talent, this fest has it! Summerfest is the music festival for you (and the 900,000 other people who attend). No matter your taste in music, this year, Summerfest has the pleasure of hosting special guests such as Paul McCartney, Luke Bryan, Selena Gomez, and much, much more.
Also, don’t worry about cost! Though there is usually a cost for general admission into the festival grounds, Summerfest is offering special admission promotions to make the festival fun and cost-effective. We recommend the Children’s Theater with performances by magicians and musicians and then taking a ride on the Skyglider for families.
No, we’re not talking about the fortress in France; we’re talking about the thousands of runners and walkers that make their way through the streets of Milwaukee to kick off Bastille Days. The 5k run and 2-mile walk takes place on the opening night of the festival, July 14 at 9 pm, and offers participants a scenic route as they make their way through downtown and the Historic Third Ward. Register your family here.
Maybe you’re not into running? Another option is Bastille Days, which also offers French-inspired musical and theatrical performances, delicious cuisine and wine, and Mardi Gras parades from July 14-17!
Milwaukee is certainly called the “City of Festivals” for a reason! It’s time to fully enjoy Milwaukee’s diversity, so join in on the procession of ethnic and cultural celebrations. These events take place throughout the summer, and even if you’re not Italian or Irish, stop by one of these festivals! You’ll learn about a new culture, too. Taste some great food and enjoy the company of fellow festival goers. Fun summer family activities to get immersed in different cultures abound! Noteworthy festivals include:
– Festa Italiana (July 22-24)
– German Fest (July 29-31)
– Irish Fest (August 18-21)
– Mexican Fiesta (August 26-28)
– Indian Summer Festival (September 9-11)
This year, the State Fair is celebrating 165 years! Start a tradition with your family, as the countdown to the fair is just beginning. It kicks off August 4th. You’ve probably heard the tales of the over 200 concession locations that offer a wide variety of foods to try—but the tales are true! State Fair favorites and new delicacies are waiting for you. Whether you prefer deep fried maple bacon cookie dough, deep fried ol’ fashion, Door County surf and turf on-a-stick, or the iconic Original Cream Puff (sold at the State Fair since 1924), there’s something for everybody at the Wisconsin State Fair.
Further, you might need a break from all the eating. The State Fair also offers shopping, rides, and live music! Quite a few big names are stopping by to perform this year, including Shawn Mendes, Rascal Flatts, and the Beach Boys. For families with kids, the fair has countless fun summer family activities, such as the Kohl’s Activity Zone with design labs and building blocks program.
Finally, we may be just a bit biased, but there’s nothing quite like spending time with family at JB’s. A little competition, and a lot of fun, we have fun summer family activities for any budget! Try galactic bowling, which is always available in our luxurious Suite 41 (take a virtual tour of Suite 41 here), awesome new games in our stocked Speed Zone Arcade, then be sure to try the best pizza in town made and served right here in the Junction restaurant, and much, much more.
Exclusively for summer, you and your family could win Brewers tickets by simply bowling a strike at JB’s! We are giving away $1500 in Brewers tickets this summer to keep the fun summer family activities going. Check out all the details here.
Most of all, there are countless offerings in the Milwaukee area, so fun summer family activities are certainly not in short supply. Attend each or pick just a few to try out—either way, get out there and enjoy the few months of sun and warmth that we have!
